The Quantum Lead
New Mexico To Invest $315M in Quantum Computing Drive
New Mexico plans to invest $315 million in a bid to become a leader in another potentially era-defining technology: quantum computing.
Quantum computing, which leverages the behavior of matter and energy at the atomic and sub-atomic scale, holds the promise of solving in minutes some problems that would take conventional computers thousands of years.
New Mexico will invest $315 million in private companies, fabrication facilities and other infrastructure such as a quantum network to connect labs and businesses.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham told Reuters in an interview that New Mexico has the advantages of abundant scientific talent and affordable land and energy. With a population of about 2 million, the state hosts two U.S. National Labs and a U.S. Air Force Research Lab branch.

New Mexico Launches $25M Quantum Venture Studio
The New Mexico Economic Development Department selected Roadrunner Venture Studios as the state’s partner to deploy $25 million to establish and operate a quantum venture studio, strengthening New Mexico’s position as a hub for quantum technologies and industry growth.
Chosen after a rigorous evaluation process launched earlier this year, Roadrunner’s proposal stood out for its strong industry partnerships, capital commitments, and integration with the state’s growing quantum assets. The initiative will immediately bring three quantum companies to New Mexico, creating high-paying jobs and accelerating the growth of this rapidly expanding industry.
Roadrunner’s network of collaborators consists of nearly a dozen partners, including Elevate Quantum, Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, pioneering startups (QuEra, Maybell, Qunnect, and Resonance), the University of New Mexico, and leading venture capital firms (DCVC, Playground Global, Quantonation).

In Labor Day Address, State Officials Tout ‘Bold, New Era’ for Quantum in New Mexico
Zach Yerushalmi believes breakthroughs in quantum technology depend on cooperation between scientists, business people, investors, policymakers and the public.
"So the question is, how do we tell a story that resonates across all of these groups, that inspires all of these groups, bringing them along without alienating any particular one of them?" Yerushalmi said.
The Elevate Quantum CEO kicked off a series of keynote speeches Monday at the Albuquerque Convention Center for this year's Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Quantum Week conference. Yerushalmi said the industry needs broad, durable support to address technical and commercial challenges.
Quantum Commons
Campus For Colorado’s Quantum Tech Hub Begins to Power Up
The lights are on at the technology campus seeking to become the heart of the Mountain West’s growing quantum industry.
Last month, local politicians and leaders of the federally-designated tech hub celebrated the grand opening of the first building for Quantum Commons.
Campus plans include adding a 17,000-square-foot lab with rentable quantum equipment that budding startups struggle to buy themselves. It’s set to open in about four-to-five months, said Paul Johnson, president of the Colorado School of Mines, who owns and operates the property.
After that, there will be a 10,000-square-foot building to prototype and manufacture products.
That building will be able to fabricate photon-integrated circuits, said Jessi Olsen, Elevate Quantum’s chief operating and finance officer.
“This is an important component as we think about securing quantum supply chains,” she said.

Infleqtion To Go Public via SPAC Merger
A Boulder firm specializing in highly advanced computing technology is positioned to become publicly traded after reaching a deal to be acquired by a special purpose acquisition company.
Infleqtion plans on merging with Churchill Capital Corp X, a special purpose acquisition company, and have its common stock trade on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker INFQ, the company revealed this week. It makes several quantum technologies, including computers, sensors and software used by Nvidia, the U.S. Department of War, NASA, and the U.K. government, according to Infleqtion. The 185-employee company expects the deal to close and be publicly traded by December or January.
CEO Matt Kinsella said going public now will allow his company to pursue near-term fundraising opportunities and acquisitions.
"I think there will likely be quantum companies that have good technology that might not be so well capitalized (as Infleqtion) and maybe aren't able to raise capital In the next five years," Kinsella said. "Coming from a venture investing background, it is much, much easier and more efficient to acquire companies when you have a liquid public currency."

Inside the Colorado Quantum Incubator with Quantum Rings
The Colorado Quantum Incubator (COQI)—a CU Boulder-led hub for advancing quantum research, innovation and community engagement—has rapidly taken shape in a state-of-the-art facility at BioMed Realty’s Flatiron Park. COQI is ramping up operations as it welcomed its first companies, including inaugural tenant Quantum Rings, a rising leader in quantum software simulation.
Quantum Rings, which focuses on simulation tools and scalable quantum software frameworks, moved into COQI in July. The company had been based nearby the incubator and, when they heard about it, they immediately wanted to join. "Partnering with the Quantum Incubator is a transformative opportunity for an early-stage startup like ours, driving significant value and credibility," said Bob Wold, CEO of Quantum Rings. "The potential for growth and impact is immense."
