The Elevate Quantum Tech Hub
A Vision for Quantum Innovation & Growth
Quantum computing will be as important to the next century as semiconductors were to the last. National security applications represent some of the largest opportunities for quantum technology, as well as the most existential risks. With by far the largest cluster of quantum technology companies and among the densest concentrations of national security assets, the Mountain West is the best placed region in the country to realize this opportunity quickly.
The Quantum Moonshot initiative is designed to leverage New Mexico’s unique blend of national security assets, world-class research institutions, and thriving tech industry to position the state as a global leader in quantum technologies. From cutting-edge research to real-world applications, New Mexico is primed to harness the power of quantum to boost economic development, enhance national security, and create high-quality jobs.
We seek to become the driving force in utilizing quantum technologies to advance economic development across the country.
Welcome to the Moonshot.
Driving Innovation with Dual-Use Quantum Technologies
At the heart of the Quantum Moonshot is a dual-use approach to quantum technologies. This initiative is focused on developing quantum solutions that serve both national security and civilian markets. This catalytic effort will tackle the region’s most pressing technological challenges and unlock new opportunities in fields like clean energy, materials science, and communications.
Working alongside Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Labs, and leading industry partners, the Quantum Moonshot aims to fast-track the development and deployment of next-generation quantum technologies.
New Mexico's Unique Quantum Advantage
New Mexico is home to one of the largest concentrations of quantum research in the U.S., thanks to institutions like Sandia National Laboratories, the Air Force Research Lab, and the University of New Mexico. These institutions are leading the charge in quantum research, attracting top scientists and innovators from around the world. Together, these assets create a powerful ecosystem that is already driving cutting-edge breakthroughs.
According to Zach Yerushalmi, CEO of Elevate Quantum, “The Mountain West is primed to lead the world in quantum technologies. With a rich history of collaboration and world-class facilities, New Mexico is perfectly positioned to drive the next generation of quantum breakthroughs.”
Investing in New Mexico's Quantum Future
New Mexico’s commitment to becoming a global leader in quantum innovation is supported by strong state-backed investment.
“New Mexico’s intellectual capital is unmatched, with the right infrastructure in place we have the opportunity to bring groundbreaking innovations to market,” said Alex Greenberg, Economic Development Advisor for the Governor of New Mexico. “Through this initiative, we aim to remove the bottlenecks that prevent commercialization and leverage our unique assets to position New Mexico as the epicenter of quantum development.”
A Collaborative Vision For The Future
As a finalist for the NSF’s Regional Innovation Engines Program, the Quantum Moonshot is set to attract federal and private sector funding to accelerate the region’s quantum ambitions. This funding will drive job creation, strengthen the local economy, and ensure New Mexico remains at the forefront of global quantum technology innovation for decades to come.
The next step for the initiative involves refining its proposal and engaging with stakeholders across the state and nation. Final funding decisions are expected by mid-2025.
