As Director of Quantum Engineering, you will manage the Quantum Technical Managers while growing and directing the entire Quantum Engineering team as they translate fundamental atomic physics to a scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computer. Day-to-day responsibilities range from project management, infrastructure development, budgeting decisions as well as technical mentoring.
Job Requirements
- Lead and mentor our quantum engineering team members to perform at their best
- Collaborate with Software, Control Systems, Quantum Applications Engineering, and Optical Engineering to define Quantum Engineering requirements and influence strategyÂ
- Manage the Quantum Engineering project roadmap and development schedules
- Support and manage project execution for a cross-functional team of Quantum Engineers
- Direct the infrastructure for the team to accomplish their goals. eg. lab buildout & maintenance, HVAC, power infrastructure, components, supplies, etc.
- Manage multi-million-dollar budget to keep Atom Computing running smoothly
- Recruit, hire, and retain top quantum engineering talentÂ
Experience & Education
- PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.
- Industry experience in quantum computing
- Minimum of 2 years in a management role
Qualifications
- 2+ years managing a team of quantum engineers, including hiring, coaching, and performance management
- Temperamentally suited to work at a fast-growing, early stage startup: self-motivated, humble, driven, collaborative, and has a high tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team of experimental physicists, hardware, and software engineers.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a changing work environment
- Ability and passion for hiring the best Quantum Engineers from academia and industry
- Strong collaboration skills
- Strong organizational skills

The base salary range for this position is between $200,000 – $250,000, commensurate with experience. In addition to salary, we offer a bonus plan and incentive stock options for equity in the company.
